Percussionist and Composer Bernhard Schimpelsberger has built a reputation as one of the worlds most innovative performers in the field of rhythm. Bernhard studied Indian classical rhythms with masters such as Suresh Talwalkar and Trilok Gurtu which led him to collaborate with Indian artists such as Anoushka Shankar (sitar), Akram Khan (dance) or Nitin Sawhney (composer).
His skilled confluence of European and Indian rhythms, as well as his in-depth studies of rhythms all around the world have made him a much in demand collaborator for artists across many genres.
He has worked with Spanish flamenco dancer Israel Galvan, Palestinian Oud virtuoso Adnan Joubran, the Cuban Rumba group Osain der Monte, South African cellist Abel Selaocoe or Londons Briten Sinfonia Orchestra to name a few.
Bernhards compositions explore new melodic dimensions within percussion and have been commissioned and performed at Beethovenfest Bonn, Rowing World Cup Championships Linz, the Britten Sinfonia Orchestra, Art Triennale Folkestone or Maltas National Dance Company.
His project Rhythm Diaries has led him to Cuba, Brazil, South Africa, India or Europe and has been awarded at film festivals all around the globe.
